Sudara is an online clothing company. All of the products on their site have been sewn by Indian women who have either escaped from or at the highest risk of human trafficking. Proceeds from the website go towards providing safe housing for these women, equipment for more sewing facilities, microloans, and skills-training or education. For the last ten years, Sudara has been empowering women in India to live in freedom through living-wage employment, skills-training & restorative care.
Why We Like It:
In lieu of traditional gift giving this Christmas, my sister and I decided to donate money to the charity of our choice. I had a few organizations that I was trying to decide between when I came across the Sudara website. After reading their biography, I was sold. Not only do they empower women in India by teaching them a skill, but they also use the profits from the sold items to offer them further support such as further education and housing. Whenever I see or hear the words "empowering women" I know I am in the right place. I immediately fell in love with the "Future World Changer" shirt as well as their mission, to empower women to live in freedom from sex-slavery through safe, sustainable living-wage employment. I know I technically broke the rule of "no-gift-giving" but I think I get a pass since it's for my niece :) That's what aunties are for!
